The Breath-Pelvic Floor Connection
The diaphragm and pelvic floor work together. When you breathe deeply, the diaphragm naturally massage the pelvic floor, promoting relaxation.
Diaphragmatic Breathing Technique
- Lie on your back with knees bent
- Place one hand on chest, one on belly
- Inhale through nose for 4 counts, feeling belly expand
- Exhale slowly for 6 counts
- Imagine pelvic floor relaxing on exhale
- Repeat 10 times, 2-3 times daily
Box Breathing for Acute Tension
When experiencing acute pelvic tension, try box breathing: inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4. Repeat 5-10 times.
During Daily Activities
Practice conscious breathing throughout your day. This trains your nervous system to keep pelvic floor relaxed during normal activities.
